January in Fortaleza isn’t for Amateurs
If you arrived in Fortaleza in January expecting nothing but a quiet coconut water in the shade of a palm tree, I have some important news for you: the city is boiling over. In fact, the Pre-Carnival Fortaleza 2026 phenomenon has grown so much that, for many locals and frequent tourists, it now beats the official Carnival itself in terms of energy and organisation.
The city transforms completely. The streets of Praia de Iracema, the promenade, Marina Park and even the shopping malls become stages for a music marathon. This mix includes classic Axé, modern Forró, roots Samba, and—of course—that chaotic and delightful energy that only Ceará can offer.
But, as a good German 🇩🇪 and owner of Refúgio Hostel Fortaleza and Refúgio Pousada Fortaleza, I, Karl, need to be honest with you. To enjoy this intensity without “breaking down” on the second day, you need a strategy. It’s no use jumping into any street block (bloco) without knowing how to get back, where is safe, or where to eat.
In this definitive guide, we have compiled the January 2026 Schedule, separated the free events from the paid ones, and added my personal “Expats Host” tips for you to survive the heat and the party with class.

The Landscape: Understanding the Party Geography
Before we talk about dates, you need to understand where things happen. Fortaleza is big—the fourth largest city in Brazil—and traffic on party days changes drastically. Therefore, choosing the right location is vital.
- Praia de Iracema (PI): This is the beating heart of the street Pre-Carnival. Here you’ll find Estoril, the “Aterro” (beach fill) and Pirata Bar. The good news? Refúgio is strategically located in this region. For many events here, you don’t even need an Uber; your legs will do the job.
- Marina Park Hotel: The stage for giant events, such as Ensaios da Anitta. It is close to the Centre, a short app ride from Refúgio. It is an open-air venue, windy, with a massive festival structure.
- Colosso & RioMar Kennedy: These are further away from the central tourist zone. Colosso requires planned transport, while RioMar is great for a safer “warm-up”.
The Schedule: What’s Going On (Confirmed Dates)
To make your life (and your wallet) easier, we’ve split the agenda between Free (0800) and Paid (Tickets Required) events.
⚠️ Note: Schedules may suffer last-minute changes by the producers, so always check the events’ official Instagram pages.
💸 The “0800”: Free Street Parties
If your budget is focused on beer rather than tickets, Fortaleza embraces you. The street Pre-Carnival is democratic and vibrant.
- Bloquinho Goxtoso
- When: Every Sunday in January (11th, 18th, and 25th).
- Where: Calçadão do Estoril (Praia de Iracema).
- Vibe: This is the classic street block. Flip-flops on your feet, sweaty people, loud music, and joy. Perfect for those who want to feel the local energy without any fuss.
- Distance from Refúgio: Very close! You can walk there; it takes about 15 to 20 minutes. 👣
–
- Verão Fortal
- When: January 10th, 18th, and 24th.
- Where: Usually in the Aterro region or seafront (Keep an eye on Fortal’s social media for the exact location of each date).
- Vibe: The brand “Fortal” carries the weight of the biggest off-season carnival in Brazil. Expect powerful electric trios (sound trucks) and crowds.
–
- Pré-Carnaval RioMar Kennedy
- When: Saturdays (January 17th, 24th, and 31st).
- Where: External Car Park (Level E2).
- Vibe: Safer, enclosed, with shopping mall toilets (a luxury during carnival!). Great for starting the night early before migrating to something heavier.
–
- Calor na Rua
- When: January 10th.
- Where: Náutico Atlético Cearense (Beira Mar).
- Vibe: The Náutico is a historic club on the seafront. A very traditional event.
–
🎟️ The Giants: Paid Events (Tickets Required)
This is where the national stars land. Prepare your pocket and buy in advance, as ticket batches sell out fast.
- Bloquinho de Verão
- Date: January 10th (Saturday) – 3 PM.
- Location: Colosso Lake Lounge.
- Line-up: Nattan, Pedro Sampaio, Léo Foguete, Timbalada.
- What to expect: Beautiful people, sunglasses, vodka combos, and a chic “beach club” vibe. It is far from the centre, so schedule your return ride.
–
- Ensaios da Anitta 2026
- Date: January 11th (Sunday) – 3 PM.
- Location: Marina Park Hotel.
- Line-up: The boss Anitta + Surprise Guests.
- What to expect: The most disputed event of the month. Creative costumes are mandatory (not officially, but socially). Arrive early; traffic around Marina gets gridlocked.
—
- Emoções de Verão (The Marathon)
- Dates: January 16th, 17th, 23rd e 24th.
- Location: Bosque do Marina Park – 9pm.
- The Vibe: A mix of rhythms where Marina Park becomes a city within a city. The marathon kicks off on
Friday the 16th with the Trap/Rap vibes of Delacruz and Teto. The following night,
Saturday the 17th, belongs to Claudia Leitte, the Queen of Axé. Moving to the next weekend,
Friday the 23rd brings the classic Reggae of Cidade Negra, and finally, Saturday the 24th closes the season with Léo Santana and Ferrugem playing Pagode and Samba
–
- Sana 2026 (Yes, Geek party too)
- Date: January 31st.
- Location: Centro de Eventos do Ceará.
- Attraction: Di Ferrero.
- Vibe: It is the biggest Pop/Geek event in the North-East. If you are tired of Axé and want to see cosplay and rock, this is your place.
–
- Simpatizo Amor de Bloco
- Date: January 17th (Saturday) – 4pm.
- Location: Pirata Bar (Praia de Iracema).
- Vibe: Pirata is legendary for the “Craziest Monday in the World”, but in the pre-carnival, it shines on Saturdays. It is an enclosed, themed, and very fun environment. Highly recommended.

The German Manual: 🥨 :
Survival Tips (Brutally Honest)
I am living here for 15 years, I am a “gringo”, and I like things to be organised. I see tourists making the same mistakes every year. Don’t be that tourist.
- The Transport Rule
- Golden Rule: Don’t leave your return for the exact end of the show. Leave waaaay before.
- Location: Staying at Refúgio, you are often in the “contra-flow” of the heavy traffic
–
- Hydration and the Equatorial Sun
The sun in Fortaleza in January doesn’t joke around. It punishes. If you start drinking alcohol at 3 PM in the sun without drinking water, by 7 PM you will be a problem for your friends (and for our reception).- Rule: One beer, one or two waters. Keep the pace. Nobody wants to miss the next beach day because of an amateur hangover.

- Safety (No Paranoia, just Attention)
Fortaleza is a party, but it is a big city.- Mobile Phone: Do not film the whole show with your phone raised in the middle of the crowd. This attracts attention. Use a money belt (that little bag inside your clothes).
- Uber: Always confirm the number plate before getting in.
- Group: Set meeting points. Mobile signals (4G/5G) often fail where there are too many people crowded together. The good old “if we get lost, meet in front of the sound tower” works perfectly.
–
- Footwear
Forget high heels or those brand-new white trainers you just bought. The ground is sand, hot asphalt, and spilled drinks. Wear old, comfortable trainers. Your feet will thank you the next day.

Why is Refúgio your Strategic HQ?
You might be asking: “Karl, you prefer Rock music and Prince, why are you giving me tips about Léo Santana?”
Because I understand hospitality. Simple as that.
Refúgio Hostel & Pousada was designed to be exactly the opposite of the street. Out there, it is noise, heat, crowds, and chaos. In here, it is:
Peace and Quiet: We respect quiet hours. We are not a nightclub; we are where you recharge your batteries for the nightclub.
A Real Breakfast: It’s not just a stale bread roll (pão murcho). It is a hearty breakfast, with fruits, juices, and options to give you substance.
Safety and Cleanliness: I am German, remember? Cleanliness and organisation are not differentials; they are obligations.
The Community: Our common area (with 3 beautiful gardens) is the perfect place to form your “block squad”. Many people travel solo and leave here with a group of friends for life.

Conclusion
January in Fortaleza is an cool, intense, and unforgettable experience. If you want to live all of this but want to guarantee a clean bed and a cold shower waiting for you at the end of the journey, your place is here.
Beds for January weekends (especially the 10th, 11th, and 24th) tend to sell out fast. Don’t leave your booking to the last minute.
